T.D. Allman wrote an article on Orlando for National Geographic titled, 'Orlando Beyond Disney - The Theme-Parking, Megachurching, Franchising, Exurbing, McMansioning of America. How Walt Disney Changed Everything.' It really captures the heart of many of the reasons why I think Orlando has gone to hell in a handbag. Sad but true. Be sure to check out the Photo Gallery (look for your house or heck your new neighborhood), the Learn More link (bit on Joel Hunter of Northland) and the Map (waaaaahhhh...it's not even been 40 years).
The title of the article could really be shortened to 'Why Walt Disney Ruined Everything'.

aaahhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeemmmmmmmmmmmm. Hate to be the third and only commenter on this same post, BUT - "BABYMAKER"???? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???? Who do I look like to you??? OK - we won't go there. Suffice it to say, you need to change the name to my link, laydeeeee!!!! I have two children (that's IT!); I am not some sort of reproducing feign! Unbelievable!!! The nerve!!!
HAHAHAHAHHA...you are cracking me up! I wondered how long before you noticed the *new addition* [no pun intended] to the blog! ;) And I mean, really - what's a babymaker to a cat lady? In my book, they are about even! I won't be making any changes on this front until I see some on the other side! :)
You might want to check with some one you know who is over 50 (if you are lucky enough to know some :O) and see what they were doing to try to stop Disney from moving to the Orlando area.
Hey Mistery Man - I'm in luck, I do know someone who is over 50 (53 actually ;)! So, I'll check with him and see what he recalls about the pre-Disney era. Thanks for the tip! :)
