Apparently, the venomous
lionfish are
invading the Keys. These frilly, non-native fish are chowing down on the locals (fish, that is) and the repercussions on the ecosystem could be disastrous. And to think, it all started with one kid's aquarium and a hurricane. Consider evacuating with your fish next time, kiddo.
In more animal related news, this bit about the
ginormous, prehistoric snake was rather fascinating. It grew to 43 feet in length, had a diameter of 3 feet and was found in a coal mine in Colombia. It's scientific name,
Titanoboa cerrejonensis, should translate into Terror of the Tropics (but, it doesn't). And just in case you are wondering, that's a present day python crawling over the
vertebrae of his ancestral big brother, just to put the whole size thing into perspective for you.
Eeauuu...just had a chill...
