Went to see Charlie Wilson's War last nite at ye ole Picture Show in Altamonte. (support local cheap cinemas ;)
The film ends with Gust Avrakotos (brilliantly played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) grimly warning Wilson about what's happening in the country they just "saved" from Communism. "The crazies", he intones, are amassing in Kandahar (reference to the Taliban currently running amuck in Afhghanistan). Decent flick - check it out if you get a chance.

Is this a new low...?
Sooo...yeahhhhh...great! This is the first post and I don't really have much to say. So, I'll share a minor self reflection from earlier this week.
I got rid of my cable many months ago in an attempt to live a less uber-consumerist lifestyle. I thought I could save some money as well as free up some of my evening hours, which had up to that point, been mostly wasted vegging out in front of the boob tube to reruns of Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond (which is a show that I absolutely LOATHE - yet, somehow, I kept finding myself watching it - I guess the remote was out of reach - heh). So, I canceled the cable and returned to a simpler lifestyle where rabbit ears played an important role. OH....and BTW, this is an important detail, I live in some sort of a telecommunications void - my cell phone doesn't work at my house, in fact, no ones does as a rule of thumb and I get horrible tv reception using an antennae (though, if you place the antennae on top of a metal ladder next to the tv - it greatly improves the reception - just a helpful tip to any of you Do It Your Selfers out there). So, I now get a smidgen of channels, most of which are too fuzzy to even watch (oh and some of them - display clear for a few seconds and then cut to blue for a second, and then back to clear the next - I've tried watching this frustrating tv phenomenon thinking I could piece the snippets together, but, it really just induces a headache). For awhile after cutting the cable, I dedicated my evenings to projects - clearing out this, alphabetizing that, color coding this, you name it - I was tackling it. This domestic goddess honeymoon of sorts went on for quite some while, however over time (like one month), my once-motivated self slowly fell back into that void of vegging out in front of the telly for greater chunks of each evening. The only difference now, is that due to my limited channel surfing capabilities, I keep finding myself becoming engaged in a fuzzy episode of American Gladiators. The HORROR.
